* Variable: based on your availability and the needs of the Simulation Center. You will be offered roles (shifts) that fit your skill set and availability. You may be offered a recurring role or one-time roles as needed in the Simulation center that you may accept or decline. You are expected to work all shifts you accept. All roles are offered and assigned by the Program Manager.

Simulation Participants or SP's perform the role of the “patient” during health care simulations or clinical skills trainings for learners in the College of Nursing Simulation center. SP's portray specific emotions, behaviors and disease symptoms while interacting with learners in the health care field during simulated patient encounters. SP's aid in establishing and maintaining fidelity and realism to each simulation.
You may participate in video productions, support voice-over for e-learning courses, photographs and other teaching material as required.

Responsibilities
  • Arrive on-time and fully prepared for all roles and shifts you accept.
  • Memorize a case script detailing specific emotions, behaviors, and disease signs/symptoms for presentation during simulated learning situations.
  • Present case information in a standardized manner, as elicited by students during simulated interactive patient history and/or medical examinations.
  • Remain in a specific patient character.
  • Embody roles with fidelity and realism.
  • Participate in group training.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information related to cases, student behaviors and feedback evaluations.
  • Provide educationally constructive verbal feedback from the patient standpoint when prompted by the facilitator.
  • Ability to be flexible in different medical and educational settings.
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Preferences

Preferred but NOT REQUIRED:
Formal training and/or certification with experience in areas such as theatre, dramatic script, acting for film/TV and vocal performance is preferred but not required.

Experience working in a variety of theatrical and multimedia settings preferred, not required.
