The College of Education at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) seeks tenure-track or tenured scholar-educators whose research, teaching, service, and community engagement are grounded in intersectional anti-oppressive praxis, such as anti-racist, anti-ableist, and anti-heterosexist theory and practice. The College of Education has four departments: Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Policy Studies, Educational Psychology, and Special Education. Individually and collaboratively, the departments and our faculties work to address the most significant and pressing issues in education.
We seek dynamic, cross-disciplinary faculty and emerging scholars with a record of or a strong plan to secure grant funding whose scholarship centers on one or more intersections of the following areas:
- Social, environmental, health, and racial disparities in schools, communities, and societal institutions;
- Asset-based teaching and preparation of urban educators and leaders for learners across the lifespan;
- Immigration, migration and global displacement of children and families;
- Transformative approaches to STEM education, and its politics;
- Inclusive or justice-centered perspectives related to human development, curricula, learning environments, assessments, evaluations, and research methodologies; and
- Educational policy that transforms society.
Responsibilities: Scholar-educators will engage in a program of research, teaching, service, and community engagement that supports the mission and values of the College of Education. Specific duties include conducting research in urban and urban-emergent contexts, facilitating excellent teaching to diverse undergraduate and graduate student populations, supervising doctoral dissertations, providing service and leadership to the Department, College, Campus and Profession.
Required Qualifications:
- An earned doctorate in education or other related field;
- Qualified at the tenure-track assistant, associate, or full professor rank;
- An established record of research and publications, appropriate to rank;
- Experiences working in racially, ethnically, linguistically and culturally diverse settings;
- Post-secondary teaching experience;
- Excellent communication skills and demonstrated collaborative experiences;
- Demonstrated success with or strong potential to secure external funding;
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to develop successful school and community partnerships and pursue community-engaged scholarship;
- Demonstrated successful experience developing courses in multiple modalities;
- Demonstrated experience with advising and mentoring students and junior faculty, as appropriate.
