Gannett is seeking a Director of Financial Reporting to join our team and be an important leader within the Financial Reporting group. This position will have a critical role in Gannett’s external financial reporting, focusing heavily on the timely and accurate preparation and filing of our SEC filings. This position collaborates closely with senior management within the organization, including Investor Relations and FP&A. This role will also assist in fostering continued technology enablement to drive efficiencies within the reporting process. The successful candidate will regularly interact with all levels of management, professional service providers (auditors and SEC legal counsel) and various functions within the organization, including Investor Relations, FP&A and Corporate Accounting. The position is based in McLean, VA and reports to the Vice President of Financial Reporting. Remote candidates are welcome.
Base Salary Range: $135-$150k, plus bonuses
Key job responsibilities include:
·Key involvement in the timely and accurate preparation and filing of Gannett’s quarterly and annual reports on SEC Forms 10-K and 10-Q, including the preparation and review of the financial statements, footnotes, and XBRL tagging review in accordance with U.S. GAAP and SEC regulations
·Fostering “best in class” disclosures in the Company’s SEC filings
·Preparation of Management Discussion and Analysis (MD&A), including related analysis and underlying supporting documentation
·Collaborate and assist with the preparation and review of other SEC filings and investor communications, including press releases, investor materials, registration statements, proxy statements, ESG reporting, etc.
·Usage of Workiva to further automation of SEC filings and other reports
·Assist the Accounting Policy team in research and documentation of U.S. GAAP transactions and disclosure requirements
·Preparation and review of consolidated financial statements in connection with month-end close and consolidation processes
·Preparation and review of various financial statement variance analytics in connection with month-end and quarter end close processes, including MD&A
·Assist with review of journal entries in connection with month-end close and consolidation process as needed
·Optimization of the reporting process, including identification and implementation of efficiency creating initiatives into the financial close and reporting processes
·Maintaining and monitoring department compliance with internal controls, policies and procedures
·Supporting ad hoc financial information requests and analyses
Requirements:
·Degree in accounting and a minimum of 5-6 years of accounting experience (minimum of manager or equivalent level attained in large public accounting firm or external reporting function at a large publicly traded company)
·CPA required
·Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting
·Very strong verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate accounting transactions and disclosure items to non-accounting members of senior management
·Exceptional writing skills that will be utilized in drafting disclosures and writing the Company’s management discussion and analysis in SEC filings
·Strategic thinker/ability to effectuate meaningful change/efficiencies
·Experience using Workiva (WDesk), BPC (or similar consolidation system)
·Flexibility, team-oriented focus and strong leadership skills, including ability to coach/develop junior accounting staff

The annualized base salary for this role will range between $103,500 and $244,950. Variable compensation is not reflected in these figures and based on the role, may be applicable. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, location, and union representation, if applicable.
