Landscape Designer
The City of Eugene Public Works Engineering Department is hiring for a Landscape Designer to assist with implementing an updated vision for Parks and Open Space in Eugene.

This is the foundation of Picture. Plan. Play. A Vision and Implementation plan for Eugene's Parks and Recreation System. Eugene voters passed two ballot measures to implement this plan, providing additional funding to maintain and renovate existing parks and recreation assets and to expand the system into underserved areas of the city.
A Landscape Designer is needed to assist with these and other important City priorities. This position will reside in the Engineering Division of Public Works.
The focus of work in Engineering is on design development and construction implementation; including but not limited to creation of construction drawings, specifications, construction permitting, project bidding, and technical inspection and documentation of construction and renovation work on City park and trail projects. Work may also include support, assistance, and consultation on other City projects, including green stormwater infrastructure development and natural resource improvement projects. The position will work as a team member with Landscape Architects, other Landscape Designers, and Engineers.

Salary Range: $35.63 - $46.34 / hourly; $74,110.40 - $96,387.20 / annually.

Location: Must reside in the state of Oregon and be able to report onsite for work as needed in Eugene, OR to meet business needs.

Examples of Duties Performed - Duties may include but are not limited to the following
Engineering Team Tasks:
- Prepares and assists with creation and design of maps, plans, details, specifications, and bid documents for the construction of parks, open space, stormwater, streetscapes, and related facilities; assists with preparing cost estimates, provides project budget input, and feasibility studies.
- Coordinates with survey staff and may assist with on-site layout and coordination of park improvements, irrigation systems, playground, trails, and stormwater quality projects.
- Performs construction inspection of landscape architectural projects including parks, green stormwater infrastructure, natural resources, and related facilities for adherence to plans and specifications; schedules inspections with contractors; coordinates quality control testing with others; issues memos to contractors for changes or corrections and verifies work was accomplished; supervises and inspects the layout and construction of site improvements including excavation and grading, concrete walks and related elements, playground structures and surfacing, irrigation systems, landscape and turf areas, trails, stormwater quality projects, and other related facilities.
- Reviews and evaluates plans and installations in-field for accuracy, adequacy, and possible conflicts or problems. Resolves routine field design problems and suggests solutions to complex conflicts and problems on construction projects. Directs and evaluates changes in coordination with Landscape Architects and other project managers.

General Tasks:
- May assist with the public engagement process for a broad range of park and facility plans and park land acquisition efforts.
- May assist with the formal design review process for park development or renovation plans.
Participates in the development of policies, procedures, and practices related to the improvement and management of a municipal parks and open space system. - May assist with preparation of a variety of permits for erosion control, construction, wetland fill and water rights to Federal, State, and local agencies.

Qualifications
Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education
Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture, or a closely related field.
Experience
Minimum one year of experience in Planning, Design, Computer-Aided Drafting, Parks Maintenance, Landscape Construction, or related public service activities.
License or Certificate
A valid Oregon driver’s license or, the ability to obtain by date of hire; must pass driving
records check and, if hired, maintain a driving record that meets the City’s standard. Oregon law requires that an out-of-state license holder must obtain a valid Oregon license (with appropriate endorsements) within 30 days of becoming domiciled in the state (ORS 803.355).
Ability to obtain the following certifications within a reasonable amount of time. Typically obtained within twenty-four (24) months at Agency-supported training.
- Traffic Control Flagger
- Certified Playground Safety Inspector
